The Open Enrollment period for Obamacare health insurance in 2017 is November 1, 2017 to December 15, 2017. If you miss the annual deadline for Obamacare Open Enrollment, you still have options for obtaining health insurance.
- November 1, 2017: Open Enrollment begins. Apply for or change your coverage.
- December 15, 2017: Deadline in order to have coverage that begins on January 1, 2018 (if you apply on December 16 you’re coverage will most likely not start until February 1).
- January 31, 2018: This is the last day you can apply for 2018 coverage before the end of Open Enrollment.
If You Miss the Deadline
Options for getting covered outside of open enrollment include qualifying for a special enrollment period (which can extend the time you can use the marketplace), Medicaid, CHIP, short term health insurance, and other insurance types.
