Applicants have a specific time period to pay the first month’s premium to effectuate coverage. This is true for open enrollment, special enrollment, off exchange and on exchange. If the first month’s premium isn’t paid in full by the deadline, the application is withdrawn.
Last year, on- and off-exchange pend periods for non-payment of the first premium differed. This year, the pend period is the same for on- and off-exchange coverage: 25 business days.
