Student health insurance at most universities in the United States meets the requirement for health insurance enrollment. However, this does not mean that this is the only choice for health insurance. You many choose to enroll in a marketplace plan.
There are several options for marketplace enrollment for students, depending on whether or not you are listed as a dependent by your parents. If you are, and live in the same state as your parents, then they can add you onto their health insurance plan.
If you do not live in the same state as your parents, you may choose to stay on their plan. However, different providers may not cover the state where you go to school. Some students may decide it is better to enroll in the state where you go to school.
If you are not listed as a dependent, then the options will depend on whether you live with your parents. If you live separately from your parents, you can fill out your own separate applications using y our own information. If you are not a dependent and live with your parents, you may be required to provide some of their information, including income.
